LTE turned on in PDX

Portland, OR has not been listed in the latest lists of new places getting LTE, but I can verify that it is now active here. It has been active for some time at the airport and suburban areas near the airport. But apparently they turned the switch on the rest of the city yesterday.

I am not a Verizon customer, but I stopped at the Verizon store downtown today to check out the latest phones. Imagine my surprise at seeing 4G in the panel. That's when the sales dude told me it was turned on yesterday.

He was a good sales rep -- he immediately sized me up as someone who knew Android and was looking for speed. He steered me to the Charge and the Thunderbolt, quickly flipping the displays to Speedtest for me (I didn't even have to ask). After four or five tests I got about 12-14 Mbps down and about 4-7 Mbps up on both phones.

Out on the street they had an easel board advertising "unlimited 4G for $29.99."
