Help M270 touchscreen failed after update

jjgurley

Lurker
I followed the suggestion elsewhere on this forum to update my M270 with a firmware file from the Maylong website. I couldn't get past the security screen (unknown password) and didn't care about any data on the device. I downloaded the file M-270CQ_Ver 1.5.6.zip.

The update proceeded as expected, but after the update, the touchscreen no longer works. That's only slightly worse than not having the password :)

I tried substituting the Touchscreen folder in the install files with the other file available on the Maylong website (M-270VF_Ver 1.3.0), but that didn't help. The VF file doesn't trigger a reload if I use the whole thing.

I only paid $1 for this device, but I have a project that is perfect for it.

That sounds like a wrong firmware flash. An incorrect build for this particular device, didn't have the right touch-screen driver in the kernel. If you only paid a buck for it, can you get another one for that price?

Maylong's website seems to be dead now, likely ceased trading. Cheapo tablets anyway, sold by Walmart.
"This website is no longer available"

It's pretty mean spirited for Maylong to leave a couple of code builds for the device on their otherwise defunct website and then plant advice around on forums recommending the fix! Glad I didn't pay more than a $1 ! Hate to throw away a piece of hardware that more or less still works.

I don't think it was mean spirited or deliberate, that's unlikely, must more likely was bum information they had, a mistake. Sure Maylong were just a trading company or an importer of cheapo things from China, and the actual manufacturers are unknown.

What might have happened, there's more than one version of the "M270", that have differing hardware in them, and they assumed the same firmware build is going to work on all of them.
