m4p files opened via ES file explorer

I have a number of drm music files (.m4p) purchased through itunes. As long as they have the .m4p extension, they are not found by my music apps. However, I've noticed that if you open them through ES file explorer, it will ask you what type of file it is. If you select audio, it will ask you which program to open them with. I have tried Apollo and Power Amp, and both will play the files this way. If I rename the files with a .aac extension, the music players will find the files, but not play them.

Anybody know what's going on here?
 
Yeah, AAC is a codec, not a valid file container for what you have. (Yes, music inside the m4p containers are encoded with AAC, no, it doesn't change what I said.)

I've never heard of anything being able to play an m4p under any circumstances besides iTunes.

Are you sure that they're protected?

If not, change the extent to m4a.

If they really are m4p, use iTunes to transcode them into mp3 files and be done with them.

Google for a virtual cd for iTunes to work with - used to be you could find them for free. That'll save you having to burn plastic.
 
I don't believe itunes will allow you to cconvert protected songs (m4p extension) to mp3. I have been trying to convert mine all afternoon, and it Does not work.

I made a big mistake in posting an app that downloaded MP3 files from YouTube and lo and behold in a matter of days it no longer worked anymore... Me and my big mouth or should I say big ideas.....:oops:!!!
