Help M8C TV Box 1GB + 8GB Quad Core Amlogic S812 Android 4.4

this box is running 4.4.2 can i update it or should i not waste my time ...im doing this box for a friend ..someone sold her two of these a M8 & a M8C ....they both are 4.4.2 is there firmware availble higher ...lolipop appreciate some support ..

More out of curiosity but is there an actual problem she's having with them as is? Or is upgrading the firmware just something you want to do?
 
ya , nothing is loading properly ...like the app will load but nothing plays (ie) kodi ...basically she only wants movie and tv style apps on the boxes she plans to keep one and give the second to her neighbor ...now im not a complete noob to android boxes or phones ..im usually the go to guy all my friends come to when they have issues
 
OK, so if the manufacturer hasn't released any updates nor provided any firmware with a newer version of Android, your options are either flash a custom ROM, or do basic maintenance on those TV boxes and to get them in working condition again.
Have you looked the manufacturer's site if there's a support page where they have stock ROMs? Or contacted them to see if they will provide you with link for their firmware?
Otherwise, what steps have you already tried to get things working again? Clear app caches? Wipe system cache partition? Factory Reset?

ya i did the cache 's and reset them almost right away ..went to work tried looking for manufactures support links also firmware updates didnt have much luck with the M8C , it has a little pop up web cam on it ..never seen that before ...but i did find the M8 firmware from a third party site ...im curious if the same one would work on the second box ..probably not tho , because the stupid little camera it has built in ..i couldnt really sit down till now to get online ..so im going to put a hour or so into doing what i can and weigh the results ...if anyone knows of or comes across something , id be very greateful ..thanks guys

but i was curious to try online as , i did speak with her earlier and she had said the kid she boought them off apparently has a guy also and told him they couldnt be done ...so i always seem to beg to differ and probably put my foot in my mouth on this one ...but shes a good girl and im doing as a favor ...so im going to do whatever i can .
