M8S + 4K... issue when backing up to USB or SD Card

RC90RR

Newbie
So I just got my new AE OTT TV Box M8S Plus 4k...
Android OS: 5.1.1
CPU: Amlogic S905 Quad-Core 64bit
Memory: DDRIII 2 GB
Flash: 16 GB
Kodi: 16.1 Jarvis

Everything is working fine except for the fact that I can not backup my kodi install to a USB thumbdrive (Kingston Traveller 8GB formatted with Fat 32) or to a 4GB SD card.

I am using the Wizard Back-up Add-on and I know it works because if I choose the path to my internal box drive the back finalizes ok and I can then transfer or copy-paste to either my Thumbdrive or SD Card but I would like to avoid having to do 4 to 5 steps instead of just directly downloading to either device.

This tells me that my box is reading both USB & SD card but for some reason, it does not want to back up directly to either of those devices.

And yes, every time, before I want to back up my KODI, I go to the wizard settings and change the path to USB/folder name or SD card/folder name but to no avail.

Am I missing a step? do I have to enable an authority option somewhere?

Also, every time I download an app to then install it, I am left with the download Icon on the top left of the screen and it does not goes away... anywhere to get rid of the downloaded notification icon on the top left of the screen?

Not a big issue but is there anywhere I can install chrome on my box as my browser and be able to use my bookmarks toolbar? I can't seem to find the option to do so.

I am using a logitech wireless keyboard K400 to move around because the remote is a bit complex to use when installing stuff to the box.

Hi...

First off, well done and thank you for writing down your questions in a clear and logical way.
It makes it much easier for anyone to render assistance.

I have installed Chrome on my TV box and like all Android devices (if you have signed in to Chrome and synced your settings with your other devices) your bookmarks are available when you press the hamburger (top right.)

There isn't a way to get your 'Windows style' toolbar on the Android version of Chrome... which is a shame, because I'd like that, too! :)

Can't help you with the perplexing issue of not being able to back up KODI directly to external media.

Also - the 'desk top' icons left behind after you install an app can be dragged away with a USB mouse, right?

Andrew... thank you for responding.

Yes, I am new to the android world but I have been asking for help in forums for a while that now I try to give as much info as I can... sometimes even more than needed LOL.

Ok, good to know that I can use the hamburger to get to my bookmarks. Do I have to register to chrome or can I use my gmail account to sync? or rather will signing in to chrome with my gmail will suffice? I hate to register to multiple sources unless I have to.

I have tried to use my wireless K400 KB that comes with a touchpad but it also has what appears to be a "Right Click Mouse Button" but it does not want to cooperate. I am going to see if plugin in just a regular usb mouse can do the trick but something tells me I have a bug somewhere.

Hi, R2D2!

Yes, you'll have to log into your browser (CHROME) to sync your favourites but as you already have a Google account it's easy.

When you sign in to Chrome, all your details will be synced to your Google Account.
This includes bookmarks, history, passwords, and other stuff.
You can choose what you want to sync.

OK, here we go...
  1. On your Android TV box, open the Google Chrome app

    Settings.
  3. Tap your account name.
  4. Tap Sync.
  5. Choose the information you want to sync:
    • To sync all data, switch Sync everything ON.
    • To choose what gets synced, switch Sync everything OFF, then check the boxes you want.
Happy surfing on the big screen!

Forgot... in case someone else wants to chime in.

Still haven't been able to figure out why I can't backup to USB or SD card...

I also can not get rid of the notification icons, top left of the screen... tried everything to no avail.

Oh, another little issue... I have netflix as part of the desktop on the box, after I login to my account, everything works fine except that it appears the screen needs to be minimized a bit, zoomed out for lack of a better word, in order for me to scroll down the episodes shown on the right side of whatever TV show I am trying to watch/ If it wasn't because I am using a wireless keyboard/touchpad mouse, navigating netflix with the remote is truly a pita and a test of how long you can keep calm before you shoot your TV. LOL

...the screen needs to be minimized a bit...

How To Adjust TV Screen Size on Android Box...

Settings - Display - Screen position - Use your remote or a mouse to 'set' your TV screen size.

Still haven't been able to figure out why I can't backup to USB or SD card...

Make sure that USB Debugging is off.

Settings - System - Developer options - Turn Developer options on - the USB debugging setting can be toggled.

I am left with the download Icon on the top left of the screen and it does not go away...

Have you tried to 'Force Stop' the offending app? (You may need to re-boot.)

Or... long press on the notification with a USB mouse, hit the gear icon, switch notifications off and without exiting the screen turn them on again - the stuck notification will be cleared... hopefully!
