Some Android versions(older?) can't mount and read exFAT formatted drives. Check if there's an update available for your M8 box. Otherwise you'll have to use FAT32 or EXT formatted drives.
FWIW I recently bought a T95 Android 10 TV box, and that has no problem with exFAT drives.
