M8s OTT Box issues and questions

Hi I am new to all this, still finding my way around so I will be asking some stupid questions. remember they are only stupid if you know the answer.
What is the SD card slot for?
I have tried to get sky sports but every time I get an error message saying cannot connect to server?
have a go at those two first.
