Help MAC Compatibility

I was unable to find much information regarding compatibility of the Samsung Galaxy with MAC computers. On behalf of the small number of MAC users in this forum, I made a call to Samsung tech support re: how to do the Frodo update with a MAC computer. I was told that the Galaxy phone is PC based and, at present, Samsung does not have a plan to port Kies to OS X. In order to install the Frodo update when it is available, if we don't have an application such as Parallels or Virtual PC, we will have to borrow a PC to do the job.

It's Froyo, not Frodo Android OS versions are named after food, not hobbits.

Neither Odin or KIES will work on Mac. However, there is one program that runs on Mac.

You will have to figure out the instructions yourself. I don't have a Mac.

Alternatively, you can flash custom roms without connecting to a computer. Here are two examples:

Darky [ROM] [Froyo] Darky's Raw Steel Edition v3.0 | Voodoo + ULF // Full of Awesomeness! - xda-developers
Tayumata [ROM][FROYO] Tayutama Edition v1.0.2 (I9000) v1.0.3 (Captivate) [I9000XXJPM] 24/10/10 - xda-developers

I am currently using Tayumata, but that's only because I like the theme. I heard that Darky has better performance (longer battery life and better signal reception). Both of these are Froyo roms.

Edit: I know that flashing roms are risky, but unless if you are going to use KIEs on Windows, flashing stock and custom roms are equally risky. In fact, custom roms might be less risky since you don't have to worry about your usb cable disconnecting during download.

Thanks for the correction on the name of the update (a brain fart on my part since I had recently read the book)!
I appreciate the information you provided. It's good to know that there are alternatives for upgrading the OS on the phone. I do have access to a Windows PC that I can use if necessary and I downloaded Kies but was unable to get it to recognize the phone. From some of the discussion in this forum, I can see I have plenty of company in this regard.
