Macro App?

Does anyone know of any application that allows placing a shortcut on the home screen to a sequence of actions? That one shortcut would, for instance:

  • Set WiFi Off
  • Set the Car Mode app on
  • Set the Disable Car Screen app on
  • Toggle from 3G to 2G

or another macro shortcut could:

  • Turn the LockRinger app off
  • Switch to Silent mode
  • Turn WiFi on


I've been searching the app market but, so far, I haven't discovered anything offering that sort of handy functionality.

I would be very grateful for any pointers....

Answer: Tasker

The Tasker app isn't available in the market yet since it's still in beta, but I side-loaded it and have been having a blast using it and keep finding more things it can do for me!

Looking at your 'want to do' list, Tasker has Profile actions for most every one of the things you mentioned that can be setup in Tasker. The only one you might not be able to do with Tasker is the 3g-2g toggle.

dbs: I discovered Settings Profile today and I've just been setting it up. It appears to do almost everything I want but I haven't yet discovered how I might set an individual shortcut to each of the profiles on my Hero screen...

Add a Setting Profiles widget on the home screen.
 
Just thought I would post an update - just in case someone else chances on this thread and wonders what happened next...

Settings Profile (SP) is working really well, but I've discovered I actually don't now need to runlots of the apps I used to run, to connect WiFi etc. SP switches wifi automatically off when I set out to work, on when I get home etc.

I've also discovered I really didn't need SP to switch Lock Ringer on/off when entering/departing my "Meeting" profile. Merely activating that profile with SP mutes everything with Lock Ringer still running.
