Made my 1st voip call

therocque

Newbie
after playing with my girl's nexus 7c for a few days, i've managed to place a call to my galaxy note via voip.

as a malaysian user, it's pretty hard to attach my mobile number to google's voice service, so i had to find another solution.

then i found a post talking about callcentric.com, an internet phone service whereby registration is free. registered two accounts (me and my girl) and then installed CSipSimple (still free last i check a few minutes ago).

just link the CSipSimple app with the callcentric number and everything is good to go.

calls to & fro went through without a hitch. call quality is ok, except for the lagging (both gadgets are on data connection. might be better using wifi i presume).

according to callcentric's website, calls made between their account holders are free (while calls to landline and mobile numbers are charged), so let me try this for a few weeks and will get back with the outcome.

I can vouch for callcentric, I used it in the past on my phone. Works fine with most sip clients, I could even enter the settings in my dialer and choose to call regularly or via data. Their worldwide rates are very good too, in fact they used to be cheaper then my local call rates, is why I set it up.
But what I do recall is having to keep an active data connection to receive calls on your cc number and make sure you're on wifi or a decent data connection or you'll sound like an assessment, lagging seconds behind in a convo.
