Mail not loading unless screen rotated

Lately, any new email with embedded graphics does not load unless I rotate the phone 90 degrees. I just see a white screen until rotated. I've waited up to 3 minutes with no results. Then rotated the phone. The email will successfully load and when rotated back to upright will remain and be complete. I'm not sure when this started as it's been several weeks. I've tried turning off and on all kinds of settings with zero results. HELP, it's driving me crazy.

Need some info:

Stock firmware?
What carrier?
What mail app?

Have you attempted to clear the phones cache? What about the app cache?
Any of troubleshooting stores you’ve taken?
Does your phone operate normally otherwise?
did you install or uninstall anything prior to this happening?

So TEXT ONLY email loads fine?
