EDIT: Things were going off topic a bit too far so I moved to new thread.

Dropped a considerable chunk of change on new kitchen appliances.

I hope it didn't scratch the finish...

Funny story (at least to me). The day we moved into our house, all the appliances were brand new. These were your basic contractor grade appliances, nothing fancy but certainly usable, and they are still working after 15 years of daily use. Anyway, the range has a baked enamel finish. Within 2 hours of taking possession of the house, Mrs. Luna was putting something away in the cabinet above the stove and dropped it. I don't recall what it was, but it had a metal edge on it and it hit the range front and center and put a small chip in the finish. Normally she takes these kinds of things in stride, but this indecent just happened to be right in front of her mother and my mother-in-law (God bless her) has always been extremely critical of her children!

While that chip has never caused a problem, to this day we have NEVER spoken of it. I dare not even mention it when the new stuff arrives.

We looked at a lot of models, but settled on Kitchenaid because I liked the range and the wife liked the fridge. The other two simply were to match. Back when we were looking at washer/dryers we were steered away from Samsung and LG not so much because they weren't well made, but because service -- especially parts -- can be a nightmare. Our current kitchen is all Whirlpool, except for the fridge, which is Frigidaire. All black enamel finish. We also have a Maytag fridge in the garage just for beverages.

Mrs Ob has been looking at appliance of late. My time is getting near. We've owned Whirlpool for many years with good luck. My son was left without use of his new Samsung refrigerator for FOUR months while a new motherboard was back ordered. To me, that speaks volumes about the company. Definitely not a brand on my radar.

We bought this POS. Not joking, it took over 30 minutes to reach a reasonable cooking temperature

It is a good looking unit though. :)
Often my services are required to perform final work around appliances and my cabinetry. It is not uncommon for one or more new appliance to arrive DOA or missing parts/damaged. It's crazy considering their cost. I have no idea how well they function but they certainly don't start out promising.

While all our Whirlpool stuff still works, I've had issues with the oven. First, it NEVER gets to the right temperature. If you want 350°F you need to set it for 380°. Second, there have been times where the oven would preheat but at some point in the heating cycle refuse to relight the burner and we end up with food that has been sitting in a warmer for a couple of hours without any indication that it's not working properly. The dishwasher is noisy and the racks are rusting through. The microwave door has already been replaced once and when the plastic cowling cracked a second time, that's when the wife said "enough".

I've enjoyed long and trouble free service with all of the Whirlpool appliances except the Dishwasher. Mine is also noisy and the basket organizers are rusting. Just the wife and I at home anymore so we rarely use it except around the holidays. Mine is old and owes me nothing. If we used it often it would have to go.

We replaced the diswasher and stove with Whirlpool and haven't had any issues. The stove still does take FOREVER to heat up though.

My range is a glass top. It heats up very fast though I'm not at all fond of the glass top. The oven heats up quickly as well. My guess from ambient to 450° takes five to six minutes.

I did have my glass top break within a few months of it's purchase. It was promptly replaced at no cost to me.
I was told that I likely used a cooking pot too large for the burner. I'm certain he was correct but I made no confessions. :) My favorite large pressure cooker has been shelved ever since the breakage. :( I had no idea that a large pot on the largest burning service would cause breakage. I also have a large set of cast iron cookware that is also shelved. Not to mention my canning pots and the like. I do not like the glass top for these cooking limitations.
Easy to clean and super fast to get hot but I'll not buy again.

I have a glass top gas range with electric oven. I have three large cast iron grates that rest on the glass to hold pots. Thankfully no glass breaks for me.

That sounds interesting. My glass top is just that... a glass top. The largest burner profile is ten inches and after reading the manual.. duh.. you are not supposed to extend the burner profile more than two inches. A twelve inch pot is about all I can do on my range. And absolutely no cast iron. :(

Gas or electric?

Ugh, electric...

Glass top as well, and boy does it get dirty. And to get to 450, at *least* 10 minutes, probably a bit more.
