Every time I post I magically start watching the thread.
In my preferences I have it turned off. But obviously that doesnt work

Just to be sure, you turned it off in here. Youwould unselect the top option "Automatically watch threads you create or when you reply...". You get to this screen by hovering over your name in the top left and chooseing preferences.
