Make phone vibrate even if in silent

I am trying to create something similar to Blackberry Messengers "PING" function. I want certain people to be able to make my phone vibrate even if I have placed the phone on silent mode. I have tried to use Setting Profiles to do this, by creating a profile (let's call it "Profile1") that turns on notification vibrations. I also created a rule that would activate Profile1 if I received a text message from someone containing the phrase "PING". But when I test this out, the Profile1 never activates.

As I've messed around with the rule, I've also tried having the rule activate based on the receipt of ANY text message (i.e., leaving the "*" in the contents field), and that does not work either. Any suggestions for those of you familiar with setting profiles, or if you know of another application?

I have an EVO 4g.
Thanks

If you want only certain people to be able to vibrate you I can't help.

Only vibrate is easy. (I have a Desire but it must be similar).
Long hold on power button brings up a menu:
Power off
Sound on/off
Vibrate on/off
Airplane Mode

Off on sound.
On Vibrate will do it

Also I have a widget that has 3 setting:
Sound on/Vibrate on
Sound off/Vibrate on
Off Sound/Vibrate

Works well
Other possibiblit
Turn ringer sound all the way down.

Thanks, but that's not quite what I meant. I know that I can have notifications vibrate -- I've had that for quite some time. What I wanted was for a way for certain text messages to cause a vibrate when the phone is on silent, whether that be because the text message is from a certain person or because the text message contains a certain string. Failing that, I'd settle for ALL text messages causing a vibrate even if in silent mode, but I can't have all notifications (emails, calendar appointments, etc) causing the vibration in silent mode because then it would just be too much. Any thoughts?
