Malicious software

Hello; First time poster having a problem with my phone; after the phone boots it will send random button press events to the screen. I think I may have downloaded some malicious software. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, currently I cannot use my phone due to the nature of the problem and am contemplating a factory reset. TIA
 
I am using a usb charger.

after disconnecting the charger and rebooting several times, I was still having the problem. I have sent for a new phone. Thank you for the reply.
 
What model phone? Sounds like the behaviour of a trackpad-equipped phone with a dirty trackpad.

The phone has stopped randomly clicking, however about 1/4 of the screen no longer functions, the back softphone button has also stopped working.
 
It does sound like a hardware problem. The only things left to try would be a battery pull and then a hard reset if all else fails, but I'm not optimistic.
