Mapping my holidays

Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding suggestions for an app.

I'd like something that I can plot where I've been on holiday. I have a campervan and we visit a lot of places, so would be nice to keep track of where we've been and add photos etc.

I'd also like to be able plot walking routes/points of interest.

Ideally offline maps would be great, but I understand this is probably asking too much.

I'm happy to use a couple of apps (one for walks, one for plotting campsites etc).

Any advice or suggestions appreciated :)

Many thanks!

Hi Amnesia180, and welcome to Android Forums :)

Do you use Google+? The Android app has the ability to automatically backup geo-tagged pictures, and will even automatically string together the best photos from a trip into a "story" that's super-easy to share (if you're into that sort of thing). That sounds like it may at least be a piece of what you're after. You can read more about the Google+ Stories here: Official Google Blog: Google+ Stories and Movies: memories made easier

For plotting hikes/walks, I'd suggest checking out MyTracks.

Hi Amnesia180,

If you are looking to preview the area you are visiting and plan and save walking routes you might find OsmAnd useful.

You can easily create and save walks, and then use your GPS to ensure you follow the route. There is an excellent measure function which adds up the route distance as you create it. There is a free version which allows up to 10 map downloads and a paid version which gives you unlimited map downloads.

The maps show most, if not all, paths and bridleways, and points of interest.

I have had the paid version, OsmAnd+, for over a year now and have used it extensively for walks in the Pennines. It was

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies.

It turns out, I'm going to need two applications. There are plenty of decent walking apps - so I've got it covered on that front.

I've tried a couple of Journal type apps - but they are all about geo-tagging rather than letting you input your own landmarks/pinpoints etc. They only allow one photo to be attached to the post, etc.

I'm using Journal (by Journey) at the moment - whilst I like the "Atlast" layout, it only works by geotagging or by pointing and clicking the area (which it then takes the STREET NAME as location, instead of the general area or campsite).

Any other suggestions are welcome :D
