Help Massive Sudden Battery Drain

Hi,

I've had a Galaxy S7 for about 6 months. This morning I was looking at my phone, which I had sitting asleep next to my bed the entire night, and it rapidly lost battery and started to drain as soon as I unlocked it. It went from 27% to 10% instantly, and then drained the remaining battery to 0% over about a minite, even though I plugged the phone in to charge it. Now I am charging the phone at work using a USB port on my laptop, and it doesn't seem to be draining anymore, but the phone says the battery will take over 5 hours to fully charge, an unusually long time.

Does anyone know about this? I don't use any high power usage apps, and this is the first time this has happened.

Try just restarting your S7, there could just be some random glitch that was tapping your battery so hard. If your battery is still getting drained so much after a restart at least you know it's not a one-off kind of problem.
You might also want to wipe the system cache partition since you're rebooting anyway. Simultaneously hold down the Volume Down, the Home, and the Power button when you restart to enter your phone's Recovery Mode. While in Recovery it's text-only so use the indicated buttons to navigate through the menus. Select the 'wipe cache partition' option, and then just restart normally. Note the system cache partition is separate from the data partition, where all your files and things are stored, so this does not have any effect on your saved data.

Okay there are hundreds of people who are probably better qualify to answer this question than me, but here goes.
1) you could have a rogue app installed
2) perhaps your charger is bad , charger cables wear out after rime
3) your phone battery could just be old and not chargering as it should be and might need to be replaced
Those are the top three things that come to mind, there are people on this site with better answers though

@Billy Beckham since the text you posted here seems to be cut and pasted from this article it would be polite to tell people the source. Otherwise you are trying to pass off someone else's input as your own (which in my profession is a sacking offence ;)).

Though the entire content of that article can be reduced to a few words, "turn off the screen and internet connections when you are not using them", so I don't think Mobkin should be too precious about their intellectual input :p.

To make your device run for a longer time, you only need to adjust some settings of your device like reducing the brightness of screen, disabling wireless network, quitting background software and so on. If you do not how to manage them, you can go with the details below to make an attempt.

1. Lower Screen Brightness

When you use your iPhone, it is inevitable that the screen is lit. And obviously, the brighter your screen is, the shorter your battery life would be. Therefore, it is advisable to reduce the brightness of the screen, which can protect your eyes as well. To adjust the screen brightness, you can go to Settings> Wallpaper & Brightness. Just drag the slider to decrease your screen brightness.

2. Tighten Up Auto-Lock

Almost all the mobile phone users choose to auto-lock their device. With this setting, you do not need to anything and just wait for several seconds or minutes to let the device lock automatically. And naturally, if the time that your device stay lit is longer, the battery will be consumed faster. In this case, you can set a shorter time period for Auto-Lock. You can navigate to Settings> Display & Brightness> Auto-Lock. Then tick the shortest period for your device, namely 30 seconds.

3. Turn off Wi-fi if You Don't Need It

For using the applications on iPhone smoothly, we always need to connect our devices to wireless network. Wi-fi would be an indispensable service for us but it is also the main reason of short life battery. Thus, you are suggested to turn off this service when you do not need to use the software connecting Wi-fi. If you want to disable it, you can visit Settings> Wi-fi and tap on the button to turn it off easily.

4. Turn off LTE

With the development of technology, the speed of cellular network becomes quicker and quicker. For customers, this is a good news since we don't need to spend too much time waiting for loading files. However, the speedy LTE cellular network requires more energy in fact. So if you are not raring to get the files, you can use the slower or older networks. You can go to Settings> Cellular and then slide the Enable LTE feature off.
