Master/Slave Connectivity

Raptor_Jesus

On Probation
I'm looking for a connectivity recommendation (bluetooth, wifi, etc).
And an app recommendation.

Goal: Select and store MP3s on Phone1 (master). Music emits from headphone jack of identical Phone2 (slave).

Example app that works: Bluetooth Music Player Free

Narrative follows...
So I have two identical Android 4.0.4 phones. Actually Phone1 has a 32GB microSD and Phone2 is only 2GB. An interesting project would be to leave Phone 2 in the old car with old radio. I can permanently wire it to the car/radio for power and AUX I/O. Phone1 would be the portable one with 1000s of MP3s, so I could play songs while snowboarding etc.

But when I'm in the car, Phone1 acts like a wireless remote for the radio. The MP3s stay on Phone1. Somebody in the back seat wants to select the next several songs? Just hand them Phone 1, they browse the MP3s, and either "Play" or "Queue" whatever they select.

Everything gets sent to Phone2 (via bluetooth in my example app), and plays through the car's speakers. Another way to think of this would be "Is there such a thing as a Bluetooth Headset Emulator, which turns a smart phone into a dumb headset?"

So again, what are the pros/cons to bluetooth versus wifi versus some other connectivity approach? And what are your app recommendations? Thanks!

1) If Bluetooth Music Player works, use it.

2) Wifi vs. Bluetooth? You can put 2 phones in one car in such a way that they can't communicate - the BT transmitters on phones are very weak, since they're designed to go from the phone to your ear with a solid signal. A human body between them (phone on your left hip, earphone in your right ear) can make the connection anything from iffy to non-existent. Wifi is designed to go further, so you'd probably have to work really hard to find positions in the car where the two phones wouldn't talk to each other.

But in your case, you can always put phone 1 on the console or dash once the playlist is selected, so that's not really a consideration.
