Material design a step back

Am I the only one that feels like material design was a huge step backwards? When did 3d go out of style? Yeah the pastel colors are nice but the simple plain flat look just makes me feel like it's 10 years ago

It is a HUGE step backwards.

the most gawd awful screen display I have ever seen.
I am pastel color blind and the screen is damn near useless to me now.
I can't see the notification bar anymore, it is hidden in all of that pale pink crap which my eyeball's rod cells don't see period. Green dots and Pink dots, you see numbers there? I don't, I just see a messy looking swamp with nothing distinguishable at all.

3D with the original Samsung display on my S5 was a godsend to me, I could use my phone. Now, I pick it up, put on my headset and say "hello?"

no surfing, the page is so white it hurts my eyes,.... I tried to make it go reverse, now that was putrid, lasted about 1 minute and I went back to white again.

Kelley Green I can see, Deep Blue, Dark Red, Yellow are good for me.
Traffic lights for me are a PITA with the old style using lamp bulbs.... faded out into a pastel nothingness...
the new LED traffic lights I can actually see the Green and the Red w/o any problems.

When Verizon upgraded my phone last month, I lost all of the nice color setups I had forced onto it.... now I need to figure out how I did that again..... I'm 73, I hate change!!!! leave my phone alone!

Not to butt in, but what software version are you currently running? You may have options.

I really liked material design at first, but the more I use lollipop the more I dislike it. It seems generally a bit more responsive, but it isnt worth all the difficulty, and to me worse battery life. It seems cartoonish now also.

... and it needs an option to clear all.

... Thom

Samsung/HTC/LG have the option,but,if I remember correctly,the Nexus 6 did not.
Guessing this is the case w/other Moto devices,as they're close to stock Android.......

This has to be a case of change just for change sake,as there is no reasonable argument for the switch to the carousel style recents in Lollipop.

Sometimes the bottom half of the screen when in portrait orientation is totally black. The only way out of it is to go into the recent apps carousel and refresh it. Two releases of 5.1 on the Droid Turbo. The problem is in both releases.

I am on Verizon, everyone has the "latest" software, regardless of whether they want it or not.
My latest problem is, the Notifications bar that I have always kept in view at the top of each homepage, is gone, and I can't find anyway to make it return.... it disappeared with the latest "improved VZW crap"

Yes I forgot verizon tends to not give you a choice. For a while you could downgrade to kitkat.

Material design is leaps and bounds forward!!! Step back I think KitKat was a total joke by far my least favorite operating system ..... Marshmallow looks even better .....

I actually liked KK.. vs 2 versions of JB and even Cupcake! Lollipop seems ridiculously finniky. Likes to bootloop on petty changes. The material design? Absolutely hideous and a bad idea. The amoled screens/batteries benefit from dark backgrounds anyways... JS

yeah.. I like more graphics.. more 3D feel to the buttons..
Since there is only just a big flat screen ... I like to feel that there is some separation in the visual indicators.

Lollipop does seem rather flat not only graphically but interactively. It's sort of hard to explain, but it seems to me that while attempting to make the OS easier to use and follow, they also stripped it of its character - a bit too bland and cold for me.
