Media app that can resume on different device

Hey all

I like MX Player but trying to find a way using MX Player or another app to allow me to resume a video or MP3 on a second device. I'd like to have a media file copied to two devices and able to start on one device and resume on another. Can anyone think of any suggestions?

Thanks

How is one device going to know where you paused on the other?

It would be technically possible, but both would have to connect to an Internet service whose purpose was to share that information between devices. That requires infrastructure, not just an app on the device, and costs money to run. If there was enough demand I could perhaps see a subscription streaming service doing this, since they already have the information (an account to identify you and a record of where you are in the music/film). But for an on device media player to set up all of that machinery in the hope that enough people would pay for it seems unlikely.

If you are prepared to restrict it to only working when they are on the same WiFi network or sharing a Bluetooth connection then you remove the cost element, but also some of the uses. And there are a lot of detailed decisions to be made in designing such a thing, so I'd be surprised if many developers bother.

I was thinking having the ability, in MX Player for example, to store the Resume data on a cloud service such as Dropbox. So if I have the same AVI on two devices, MX player would go to the cloud to find resume data for that particular file.
