Media volume muting randomly

I have a S8 plus bought less than three months ago and about a week ago the media volume started muting and then going up and down at random times when listening to music and podcasts. Does anybody else have this problem.

About the same time the google voice searxh started appearing and waiting for me to talk and I can't find how to turn this annoying thing off.

Very grateful for any help anybody can give.

Thanks

Danny

Sounds like a case of sticky button syndrome.

Check to see if the volume buttons have any crap in them. Also, do you have an ill fitting case that maybe is pushing on the buttons or applying pressure when you hold the phone?

For google assistance try this:
  1. Go to your phone settings,
  2. Google,
  3. Search,
  4. Settings,
  5. Phone,
  6. Then switch off Google Assistance.

Hi there

Thanks. I have tried the phone without the case and the volume button still keeps randomly muting and occasionally going up and down.
Any other ideas gratefully received before I take it to the shop to get it replaced. Thanks

Danny

To eliminate a rouge app causing the issues put your phone into safe mode and see if the problem persists:

WARNING: Putting your phone in safe mode will clear any or most of your shortcuts and widgets from your home screens!

  1. Power down your phone by holding the power button and selecting Power off,
  2. Now turn the phone back on - but keep the power button held down until you see the Samsung logo screen,
  3. Now release the power button and quickly hold down the Volume down button,
  4. If successful you will see Safe Mode appear in the button left of the screen,
  5. Continue to boot the phone into safe mode. If it did not work try again.
  6. To get out of safe mode you can simply restart the device or select the notification.
Play around with the phone and see if the problems persist, if it does then it is likely to be a faulty device.

Thanks for that. I have tried it in safe mode and the media volume did mute itself several times in the half an hour or so before I put it back to normal mode. Do you think this means I need to go back to the shop to get the phone replaced?

Not happy 😢

You could try clearing the cache partiton on your device, this is where temporary files get stored related to the OS and sometimes causes issues. Especially after updates.

This is a cut and paste from another article and I've not actually tried it on my S8, but should work:
  1. Make sure you turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times in order to highlight “Wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “Yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. After the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If that does not work the next thing I would try is a full factory reset. If you still have issues after that then I would take a walk down to the phone shop to see what they will do.

It seems hard to pinpoint that to a specific app so could I suggest turning off your phone and then pressing power, volume up and bixyby? You should be in recovery. Try clearing cache. Anyway I hope you don't mind if I ask this to be put in the Galaxy s8+ forum as although I have an s8 I've never experienced it but maybe others have :) (ninja'd)

MY Galaxy S8 has started muting itself.......I do not have the S8+. I wonder if Bixby has anything to do with it?? I finally logged in last week, and that is about when it started??
