Meebo, the free IM app is now available for download in the andriod market place.

I've been using www.meebo.com to IM on AIM, MSN, and GTalk with 1 logon and without any download (at work mostly heh) for a while now and I have nothing but praise for it.

Now they're created an app that does the same thing for the G1.
If you'd going to try it out, I'd recommend setting up your accounts on the computer/website first (really easy) that way it's ready to go when you DL the app for the phone.

I'm using it, it works, check it out if you need an all-in-one IM client.
 
This is amazing news.
I forget the forum, but another android forum was full of people complaining about sms charges from using the im clients...
 
Got the meebo, love the browser version on the desktop. The iphone hd the All-in-1-IM, but this thing is killer - and it has a GOOD jabber connection.

Really nice.
 
The current meebo has LOTS of problems:


  • No alerts
  • No retaining of login information
  • No automatic reconnect
  • Since RC30, it flat don't work
 
*sigh* Although I know I've been rather spoiled when it comes to a decent IM client since I'm coming from the Sidekick family, but is it really that hard to get a good IM service on the G1?

Man, I got semi-excited about this yesterday.. installed it, but really didn't have much time to play with it.. but at least I did get most of my 7+ IM accounts setup.. thought I'd play with it later.. haha! Man, if I have to load up 7 IM accounts everytime I want to IM, this thing is going to the un-install pile. Can't we just get pidgin? :)
 
Well, the easy solution to that is to sign up on meebo.com, and set up all of your IM accts there. Then you just sign into meebo on your G1, and all of your accounts will automatically sign in.

7+ IM accts tho? O_o
 
I might give this a whirl. I'm using trillian on my desktop but it seems slow and bloated.
 
well umm it looks nice ...but lacks the stay'n power for my G1

Man Adium would look nice on this phone...keep it on the home screen slightly trasparent .....I'll just dream
 
there is this application in the market place call meebo that could help but it's just a little better. or the nicer way to be connect to your aim is to type www.meebo. com in the phone web browser. And you could actually chat wit your friends from the web browser in your phone:):):). i hope that was helpfull enough
 
i noticed that if some one ims you it scrolls across the top of the screen lke when you get texts. i just wish it created an actual notification that should you you have a text from this person. otherwise i think the app is heading in the right direction. also i have rc30 on my g1 and meebo still works fine

I have a meebo account, and I can login on the website, but it won't let me login from the phone.. through the client.. are you suggesting I login to the meebo site from the G1?

Yeah, 7+ accounts pretty much account for the fact that noone wants to stick to a standard. AIM, Yahoo (2), ICQ, MSN (2), private jabber (3), sad to say myspaceim, and a couple of gmail/gtalk accounts. Most of the doubles are me not mixing work and pleasure. :)

Hmm, odd it won't let you login to your meebo acct through the G1 client. I made a meebo acct on the website, added my aim accts to it and when I sign on to my meebo acct on the G1, it signs in all of my aim accts. Not sure why it won't let you login.
 
I wish it was as great for me... the meebo app keeps logging me off automatically even when im connected through 3g or wifi. Then when i tried to use www.meebo.com through my G1 it didn't even log me in even when I was in 3g and wifi!

All i ask for is for stable AIM to work on my phone!
 
I have the same problems with staying logged in, Kaywon. It's just as bad as the first version. It's obvious that it can detect that it is no longer connected, because it removes the icon from the status bar. I have no idea why it doesn't attempt to reconnect.

how did you do that? i just upgraded the meebo on my phone and don't see where i can log in for all my accounts at once
 
When you do your signin, just select "meebo". If you've previously signed in on the website, all of your accts will sign in automagically.
 
i was super excited about meebo, but it keeps logging me out! not too happy about that. i just wish beejive would make a beta version for android.....soon!
