Memory problem with Gallery/transferring photos to Mac

Up till now, I've never had any problems transferring photos and movies from my LG Optimus Elite Android phone to my Mac. I go to Settings>Connectivity>Default connection mode>and choose Mass storage. The phone's icon appears on my desktop, I click on it to reveal all the photos in my phone, and I'm able to move all of my photos from the camera into iPhoto.

But the other day I was taking some video and I got a message saying that all the memory was used up. So I could not take any more video or photos. My plan was to simply transfer the new vids and pics to my Mac as usual, and then delete them from Gallery, thus freeing up space. (I've successfully done this before.) But when I attached my phone to the Mac, the Droid icon did not show up on my desktop. I got no indication that they were talking to each other.

What's more, when I go to Gallery on my phone and try to look at my pics, I get a message which reads, "Warning: Not enough memory in Internal memory. Free more memory in Internal memory by connecting phone to PC or launching file manager." Well, obviously connecting the phone to my computer didn't do any good. So then I launched the file manager, which brings up something called Polaris Viewer. It has three folders: My folder, Recent documents, and Favorites. There was nothing in the documents and favorites, and in the My folders there was a bunch of folders I didn't recognize, and when I tried to open any of them, I got a message saying "This file format is not supported."

I did find a folder labeled "DCIM" and inside it is a sub-folder labeled "100LGDSC." I was able to open it and it seems to hold all of my photos and vids. But outside of being able to look at them one at a time, I have no clue as to how to get them into my computer.

Can anyone help me out of this quagmire? Thanks.
