Memory usage in Galaxy S

With my new Galaxy S I gorged myself on apps and kept loading them as if there was no limit.

When the memory was almost full I took stock and removed the many apps I decided that I would hardly ever use including Lookout which seemed to hog a very large proportion.

After removing the unnecessary apps I was still unable to load new ones due to the limited available memory.

Removing the apps does not seem to be enough. What must I do - restart the phone to fully clear the memory or what?

Is there a simple app to watch memory usage - one that does not use too much memory itself?

Memory usage is seen by opening task manager then clicking on the storage tab.

As for that market bug, just go to menu>settings>applications>all>look for market>clear data>reboot the phone.
