Help Menu button work around?

Is there a work around for us using the One V when apps aren't ICS friendly?

We don't have persistent back, home, and recent app buttons where a menu button appears for legacy apps.

For instance, I like to use the Google News and Weather app. Say I don't like to read sports news, I used to be able to press the menu button and go into the settings and check mark the categories I was interested in.

Has anyone else run into these kinds of issues?

if you dont see the menu button on the top right of the screen for the app, you can just long press the recent app history softkey (lower right on phone) and the app menu will pop up
