Help Mesmerize Video Output??

Lurker
So I know the Galaxy S does video output through the 3.5 mm. jack. I also know that US Cellular turned that feature off, with great debate as to whether is was via hardware or software. I anxiously awaited the S2 and sure enough, USCC disabled the video out on it too.. Has anybody gotten the video output to work on a USC Mesmerize via rooting/vodoo/etc??

Thanks!

How do you "know" all of this?

3.5mm is audio only on most smartphones/handheld devices. Video output is thru Bluetooth, USB, or HDMI outputs on most of them.

I'm not aware of the GS doing video output through the 3.5mm jack, even on other carriers. But I've never paid attention to it, either.

Can you post some links to show us what you're talking about?

Have you tried using this?

Amazon.com: Dynex DX-IPAVC - Video / audio cable - composite video / audio - RCA (M) - mini-phone 3.5 mm 4-pole (M) - 6 ft: Electronics

I realize it's unusual to have a 3.5mm plug do vid as well as audio, but I did my homework on this one before posting.

Samsung Galaxy S (SGS) 3.5mm Jack Video Out Test - YouTube

I did try the cable and it didn't work. I had audio only. I then called USCC's tech line, and their people have repeatedly said this feature isn't available on this phone. I don't even get the menu option for TV Out that others in these videos have. So I'm sure there's a software difference between carriers that I thought rooting it might help correct.

Does this make sense? Thanks!!!

It completely makes sense. But it isn't something I've heard of on ANY of the Galaxy S phones released in the US (i500 series), so my guess at this point is that it is a hardware feature only on the i9000 series of phones that were released internationally. They are also considered "Galaxy S" phones. That is the phone being demo'd in the video you linked.

Thanks for the update.. I was hoping I'd get lucky on this one. Oh well, until the next phone comes out with it, I guess I"m just stuck.. =( Appreciate you looking into it for me.

Its a long shot, but what about re-flashing the i500 with i9000 OS data?

This is definitely news to me. If i had known about it earlier i would have done everything i could to get it working.

Upgrading to the new S2 will cost $200 and I get bigger screen/etc. So much for trying to make this work, I guess I'm just going to buy a new phone.. Thanks for the help everybody!!

It's a totally different phone. It's not like flashing a Fascinate ROM onto a Mesmerize, where 99% of the firmware is the same. There is a very good chance it would brick the phone.
