Help Message character limit with Apollo

Any idea if Samsung will update the stock messaging application so that it does not send longer than 3 x 160 characters long messages as an MMS? I am not interested in Chomp or Handcent or whatever. I think it is downright perverse than my back up phone, cheapest possible Samsung model, allows sending SMS in 6 x 160 chacater parts without converting into an MMS yet the 10 times more expensive Galaxy 3 does not.

Note that it is not an Android limit for my gf has an Xperia X8 and it does not have this problem.
