Message forwarding across platforms

Hi guys.
I'm a long time iPhone user who's picked up a Note 4 for a needed second line. Really digging the phone, and am spending a lot of time learning it's ins and outs. That being said, I still have a need for both phones, and depending on the situation, I will carry one or the other. I did a search for "Message Forwarding", and there were many replies about the long hold to send a part of the message to another number, but what I am looking for is a way to have messages from the device left behind to be forwarded to the one I'm carrying. Anyone else in this position find a solution?

And please, I'm not looking to dump my 6 Plus, so "Get rid of your iPhone" will not be a helpful answer.

Thanks and Cheers!

So you have two phones (iPhone 6 & Note 4) with two phone numbers, correct? Could you use G+ Hangouts as your messaging app on both? I don't know if that is available on iTunes. The downside is everything is MMS, but the upside AFAIK the messages are redirected to the associated G+, or Google, account associated with hangouts. So you wouldn't be forewarding them to each phone, they would show up automagically.

Interesting idea, Unforgiven. Thanks for that.
If I were to go that route, do you attach your phone numbers to the G+ H service? Or do they issue you a separate number, as with google voice, that I would have to give out to all of my contacts?

And that's correct. Two phones, two numbers. Seems silly that you can forward calls to another phone number, but not messages.

I never used the G+ for messaging, but it doesn't use phone numbers, it's just the Google account you register with, so I think it should do what you want. An alternative using a new number is google voice. With that you can get a new, third, phone number and have any messages sent to that, or even calls directed at that, sent to both phones. I think you can even have it done depending on who texts or calls the Voice number. I know that works for phone calls, as I have my wife ring my work, cell, and home phones while I send known telemarketing numbers straight to voicemail. I've never tried it with messaging though.
