Help message options

I am new to android.

when I receive a text message it says message on my lock screen. I have to unlock the phone then swipe down to see the content.]

with the iphone the message would pop right up on the screen , i would have to press 0 buttons to read the text.

is there a way to have the messages come up like this on my galaxy ?

I'm new to Android as well but I think I know what you're trying to do.

If you go I to settings in the messaging app, touch notifications, you'll see a preview message section. I have status bar selected and texts scroll across the top of the screen along with the new message alert. I haven't tried it but I'm guessing the other option, lock screen, will give you what you're looking for....or something similar.

I placed my message app icon on the Bottom Command Bar,
I just unlock the phone and touch the Command bar msg icon and there the message is.

Also.. there is a pop up option.. you can use.. has a small personal message box pop up..

using handcent messaging app, you can have the pop up active.. also.. make it so it wakes the phone.. and you can actually reply from the pop up..
