messaging doesn't recognize google contacts for sender name

when i receive a text message i only see the phone number that it came from, not the name of the person i have in google contacts for that number. does the droid not see google contacts for messaging?

i added a new contact for a phone number from the add contact function in messaging. then the name showed up.

any way to make messaging see google contacts for name association?

I had a few contacts that didnt work when verizon transferred them from my old phone i deleted them and then reentered and they now work. thankfully it has been very few that had this issue.

if you get a text, does the text show the contact name or just the number it came from?

Mine is doing this too. Ill admit it, I'm trying to get around paying for a texting plan.

When someone txts by gmail account, I receive it on the phone but it just shows their address (##########@vtext.com) instead of their name.

Anyone find a fix for this?

i've been adding a new contact from the droid. it doesn't appear to recognize amending a contact from either the droid or the desktop. btw- in lieu of texting, use google talk with known contacts.
