messaging notifications not working

My text messaging notifications stopped working. I did not change any settings. Yesterday my phone screen was off then started going crazy, blinking and flashing on and off. Now when I get a text there is no noise, light, pop-up, or message envelope in the left corner. All notifications are still on. I have to go into messages and just see if I have a new text.

Have you tried rebooting the phone? Power the phone down completely, then turn it back on, and see if that corrects the problem.

What model of phone is it? What version of Android is it running?

I have restarted it. Shut it down and turned it back on, waiting 10 minutes in between. Checked all settings, all notifications are on and were not changed. It is a Samsung Galaxy 3. All other notifications work except text messages.

What notification isn't working for you? Sound? Vibrate? Status bar?
