I have a rooted tmobile gs5 lollipop 5.1 stock rom. Are there any options to install the stagefright update without unrooting? OTA is not an option, my phone gives me the

I was thinking about installing a custom rom that would have that patch already in it????

Is there a way to use samsung smart switch to install the update? When I attempt to check for software update on my phone, it actually tells me the OS has been modified and try using the smart switch....

Finally, if unrooting is a must, when I go to root, can I follow the same exact protocol as before, or must the developers update the root packages first?

I could have sworn I saw a patch in .zip form somewhere...I'll have to look around.
Or you could use a different sms/mms app such as Textra which, in the latest update, won't allow auto downloads to prevent stagefright.

Anyhoo, let me look for the .zip. :)

Others may have another idea too though as I am not familiar with smart switch :(

Kies updated you? Did you have to do anything before that?

Nope, just plugged-in to KIES & updated.
I didn't lose a thing, or back up at all, but, SAMSUNG recommends doing so & senses if you're rooted, giving the obligatory warning that you update at your own risk.
It was painless.
I do recommend using the USB cable that came with the phone, per SAMSUNG's recommendation.

Good to know! Thank you. I'm going to backup with titanium first.

A TWRP/CWM recovery back-up of the entire O/S-ROM wouldn't be a bad idea & make copies to store on your SD Card &/or desktop..................

Just a BTW:
T-Mobile' site hasn't listed the stagefright update yet, but, may be available via KIES/SmartSwitch,just as it currently is for the NoteEdge.
Have you checked KIES yet?
