Metro / T-Mobile

I am just outside the coverage area with metro. If I go down the road I get 2 or more bars, and 4g. At home, no bars and 1x.

Would switching to T-Mobile and a new phone improve this or is it a waste of time/money?

Looking at your devices and the fact you listed getting 1x signal, it looks like you're using a CDMA device and thus using the Metro CDMA towers and not the T-Mobile towers. Switching to T-Mobile might improve things, but there's no guarantee unless you try it. You could try checking coverage maps to see what they say about your area.

Exactly.

T-Mobile likely has better GSM coverage in your area. You'll need to switch to a GSM phone, though.

There ARE places where the GSM signal IS NOT AS GOOD AS the CDMA signal.

Thankfully for everyone but me, those areas are apparently in the minority.

I went back to the old CDMA network. May have been a better switch for some of you, but not in my case. GSM signal, data speed (3G, 4G) and coverage were definitely better. My gripe was having full signal in the heart of Boston, yet going completely dead, immediately after taking ten steps into almost any multistory building. CDMA works much better indoors for me.

Oh, and TMO's 2G is a joke. Even with 4 bars, it is SO SLOW that most times it won't even register on a speed test :D:D I've never imagined Metro's 1x would actually be faster than something! *your results may vary LOL

in my location i have better CDMA signal than GSM as bruce pointed out. LTE versus horrible 3G. i switched from boost and could only buy one phone so went GSM.
