Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Is there a way to go back to Ice Cream Sandwich without rooting the phone?

My phone is not rooted. I am currently running version 4.0.4. If i install the 4.1.2 update for Jelly Bean and i experience any problem such as bad battery life, is there a way for me to go back that doesn't require me to actually root the phone and install a custom rom.

I really do not want to root the phone because i don't want to screw it up and ruin my warranty.
