Root [MetroPCS/GSM] [ROOT AND RECOVERY] Root and recovery methods

We actually ended getting a different variant than the Tmobile LTE version. They are model number T999L and we have T999N, but essentially they are the exact same phone.

I'm currently working on porting over some popular ROMs for flashing purposes. But root is obtained pretty easy.

Here is a link to different methods. I take no credit for any of these.

I've been looking for some roms everywhere. Just for those who are wondering I rooted with the Odin method and it works fine.

A little lost rooting my new T999N. I guess there is not a one click root like the cdma version.

thank you

Unfortunately no, the root toolkit doesn't work on ours. Odin is a pretty good one click root once you install a custom recovery.

If you look up on youtube, there are videos on how to root using Odin.

My apologizes for my ignorance but can you guide me on what to download and how to get it done. I went to the link above but they got diferent versions and its kinda confusing to us. What to do think works better and the safest/esier way to get it done.

Thank You 4 your time.

I've tried this method, got recovery installed and then flashed Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip for root, now the sgs3 will boot but then goes unresponsive and reboots after a few minutes. where did I go wrong?

I think I may have flashed the wrong su.zip, I just wiped data/cache now its going through the set phase smooth like..

I installed the update su 1.25 and now it's working like a charm.

I keep trying to put the custom recovery on my T-Mobile T999L Samsung S3. I have been doing almost aall of the CWM recoveries. and it always passes with Odin and i get this:

<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> SingleDownload.
<ID:0/004> recovery.img
<ID:0/004> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/004> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/004> RES OK !!
<ID:0/004> Removed!!
<ID:0/004> Remain Port .... 0
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)

But the recovery is never there. I cant boot into it, and apps states that i dont have a custom recovery on the phone. When i go with any other recovery, Odin always freezes up and crash. What am I doing wrong, or what do i need to do to get it right?

Have you rooted the phone first ? And are you sure your are rooted. Make sure usb debugging is on and you have the proper drivers. Make sure your in download mode. And also make sure your super su has disabled knox.

No not rooted. Can't root without recovery and can't get recovery without root. Stuff is crazy. I got the recovery to work finally. It was all about pulling battery out midway thru and not letting phone reboot.

A bunch of headache.

No you need root, bc knox will not let you flash another recovery, use the cf auto root method for odin, tgen flash your recovery, knox has to be disabled and to do that you need root first

I got it all to stick. It was a battery issue. Very weird. And no nothing will let me root without the recovery. That's weird to.
