(Mhl) - what is hdcp?

Hi. Been shopping around for an mhl cable. Found one I like but I saw something I didn't see on other descriptions and thought I'd familiarize myself with it. However everything I read about HDCP explains it very little or rambles on about something else.

*What exactly does that mean/do? (HDCP)
*Will it keep me from streaming videos from the internet, or did I understand it wrong?
*Or movies I converted on my PC?
*Is this on every mhl cable?

The HML adapter cable simply mirrors your phone's screen to the TV.
So, every vidoe that runs on your phone will be shown on TV

Thanks...I appreciate your response and apologize for not being more specific. I understand MHL however I don't have a clue what HDCP is...what it does...and how that effects me, my device along with my TV. Since the OP I have also found under Settings>Developer Options there is a category relating to HDCP. That too is something I'd like to know about.

Even more specific I'd like to know if it effects internet streaming capabilities, any movies I rip from DVDs, and if anyone else has had any issues with their MHL cables.

I have a relatively older INSIGNIA Plasma but I noticed as I was changing input channels, one of my HDMI inputs simply says HDMI while the other says HDMI/DVI ans I saw something about the "DVI" part in relation to HDCP. I've also noticed I cannot get the first HDMI (the one without the DVI) input channel to work...EVER.

I'm trying to find out also if this is a feature with ALL MHL cords and just not mentioned BC I only see it on the 15ft one I want.

Anyway, I appreciate it if anyone could please help me understand this and I apologize for all the questions... I've always loved tech but I'm just now finding time to learn and again I TRULY APPRECIATE ANY help.

It stands for High Definition Content Protection, basically it just ensures that you have a secure digital signal path. As far as I know all HDMI cables and adapters sold today are compliant. The dvi port is for computers to connect to your tv. Most newer video cards have HDMI out so dvi is not really needed anymore. Without the secure digital path your Blu-Rays will only play at Dvd resolution.
