Micro SD Card Not Writing Anymore

awaze

Lurker
I having a recent problem with my Micro SD Card. I _used_ to be able to write to it. I wrote 103GB worth of writing and then things went haywire. First, the menu bar expanded on its own when I was moving files. The expanding happened more than ten times in a row. It's hasn't happened again but now the Micro SD Card can't be written to. The card still _reads_. I just can't _write_ to it anymore.
The Micro SD Card is a 200GB SanDisk card I bought at Wal-Mart.
I use Android 6.1 on a ZTE Gray Joy.
If you require more information about my phone I will gladly give it, but that's all I have for now.
Thanks In Advance for any help all of you might offer.

Assuming you were transferring files with a file manager app, which one were you using? Also, how much free space is left on that microSD card?

I have tried both the native Android file manager and FX file manager with the same result of not being able to transfer files from the phone's hard drive to the Micro SD Card.

I have roughly 70GB left on the Micro SD Card. I just can't use it.

Going on an assumption those menu bar expansions were a signal of some sort error notification from the app not being able to write data to the card, this could be sign the card is failing, or just some odd, temporary glitch. The first thing to try is just restart your phone, if the same problem persists at least you've determined this isn't just a one-off matter.

Another thing to check is the documentation that came with your phone and confirm it can support a microSD card with that capacity. Doing a quick search for the hardware specs of the model you indicated (ZTE GreyJoy), the results I ran across relate to a ZTE Prestige, which only supports up a 32GB card. If your model doesn't support a 200GB card, you're really riding on the edge as far as using that card to store files. If it does however, you might to try putting your card into a computer using a microSD card adapter (or if it has an integral card slot), copying everything you want saved off of it as a backup, and then put it back in your phone. Reformat it on your phone, and copy some files onto it as a test. If it's working again then restore all you backed files to it.

I didn't check the menu expansion error messages at the time they happened, so I couldn't tell you off they were write related.
I just checked and my phone does_not_ support a card with this large of a capacity.
That has to be the problem.
I will copy the files to my Mac and then reformat using my phone and then start all over again.
