Micro SD cards

Gomtu

Newbie
I went looking on Amazon today for a larger Micro SD card, and was surprised to find a 256 gb card for, get this, $27.50. All the others were far more expensive, and in the product description I find this from the seller:

We all goods are authentic, quality assurance, there are a lot of fake and shoddy products on the market now obscure, cheap, damage the quality of the product, please note cheated fooled. All items purchased in the store, in a month, quality problems, please your letter, we will solve all the problems for you, of course, we are not responsible for man-made damage. Thank you, friends.

Okay, I don't think I'll be buying anything from that guy...

A Sandisk card of the same capacity costs a lot more, from $159 to $209. What puzzles me is why Amazon would have an obvious piece of crap SD card for sale on it's site. I guess it's caveat emptor there.

Also, the cards look different, are shaped different and I'm wondering why.

This card is shaped like the one I put in my tablet:

But this one is obviously different, and doesn't have that thing projecting from the side, so I'm thinking it won't work in my tablet, but nothing tells me the difference between them or why they look different. I did a search on Amazon for only Micro SD cards, and saw a bunch of them like this. Anyone care to educate me?

Thank EarlyMon, I've been diging some since posting that, and it seems that ordering a card from Amazon is no guarantee it won't be a worthless fake. I'm seeing a lot of stories about that happening, and it would seem about a third of the Micro SD cards Amazon ships are counterfeits and worthless. You'd think they'd do better than that.

I had to laugh when I saw a 200 GB card... Since GB cards being produced I've seen 1-2 GB 4-8-16-32-64-128-256 ( x2) to a two TB card so far... Never a 200. Lmao! You should check your android manufacturer specs... See how card your can use. Buying bigger is a waste. My lenovo yoga is a 16 mb the biggest card it will accept is a 32 GB! Size isn't all when looking for a SD card class matters a lot!
There are four different speed classes 10, 8, 4, and 2. 10 is the fastest, while 2 is the slowest. Class 2 is suitable for standard definition video recording, while classes 4 and 6 are suitable for high-definition video recording. Class 10 is suitable for “full HD video recording” and “HD still consecutive recording.” Some newer tablets will only accept faster cards! Something to think about!

I think someone touched on your earlier other question.. The smaller on that you said goes in your tablet is card itself, the bigger on is an adapter. The little one will slide in the back on the bigger one so it look can be used in older computers\devices that have a standard SD card slot on its reader. I bought a NEW laptop this weekend it still don't have a micro SD slot, thank goodness I kept my old adapter. Hope this was of some help!!

You need to check your facts.

200 GB microSD cards that work fine with Android are a reality.

Any SDXC capable phone - that's almost all of the new phones anymore, certainly every one of them spec'd to 64 GB or greater and most every modern one spec'd to 32 GB can use it.

There are also more than 4 speed classes but you have the right idea.

In the US, the facts I've stated.. I stand behind. 200 is very uncommon if not rare. Sandisk was ( I believe to have this uncommon configuration) again as a US standard consumer grade the four classes are standard fare! My statement about TABLETS ( not phones ) are common.. MOST, yes again MOST tablets that have been manufacturer to date will only use certain sized cards! I would love to use a 200 GB in mine but it would be underutilized and a waste of money. I've researched hundreds of Android tablets looking for that perfect one FOR ME. Yet to find it.. There's always a trade off, with some spec or expectation. Price vs. Performances etc etc Bloatware being the biggest menace to me. Again, since appearing March\April of this year the 200 was unknown.. This is just June. Its not like people were breaking down Walmart doors or Amazon was shut down because of a influx of orders for a 200gb mini sd card oddity.

It was the precursor card before 256 GB was available, not rare at inception and sold like hotcakes.

It was front page news with sales links on every single major Android news blog.

As for card classes, the original set included Class 6.

The first Class 10 cards were quickly cross-spec'd to UHS-1.

Existing Class 10 offerings now cover a range of UHS cross specs and the top end phones absolutely take advantage of all but the highest speed classes.

So Class 10 is no longer a thing but a class family.

I appreciate the courage you have in your conviction but you've been somewhat out of the information loop.

My corrections stand as a matter of fact.

Hope this clarifies, nothing personal ok. :)

Note that I'd snipped off (twice) the part of your quote dealing with form factors as I had nothing to add. ;)

Its is OK! What is it like 3 months into sales? Ummm I've never known anyone to buy one because again "the limits" stated on each tablet ( the guy posting this thread stated "tablet") and yes COST! show me a consumer grade android tablet that can take full advantage of a 200 GB card ( mini, micro standardized) I'll sell my two lenovo, two HP and dell to buy it! Please include link and review as proof and I'll stfu. I keep wonder to whom I'm talking!? The average consumer.. That was willing to lay out mega bucks for a new 200gb card that most consumer grade android electronics can not handle!? ( not) Or the bloggers that was reviewing this " omg..wonder" that never bothered to use one on a tablet and see how much he can put on it in real life!?
Forget the hundreds of millions consumer grade camera , computer, printer, etc etc etc that can not use a 200 GB card!! Like I said.. I would LOVE to own a android tablet that will let me take a 200 GB card and use it fully.. Best money ever spent! - peace

I was mistaken about the SanDisk.

I don't understand your invective and I don't care to.

If your device will handle an SDXC card it will handle that.

Period.

I don't base that knowledge on blogs, it's a qualified, professional statement of fact from the semiconductor industry - I've worked in R&D for years in it.

If you don't want to believe me, that's your right.

I've stated facts.

The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 is rated to 64 GB. That's SDXC.

If you can find one in your form factor and want to pay for it, it's more than 99.99% likely going to work.

Your came into this thread being rather snarky - the OP and I were discussing her needs and your facts are simply wrong.

Deal with it, I'm done with the disruption, disrespect, and disregard for the facts.

Have a nice day, hope your storage needs work out for you.
