Micro USB Cables

I want to buy another charger cable to keep in my car, to recharge my S3 on the go...

There are some pretty cheap ones on ebay, but are they all the same? I remember reading somewhere (but can't find it now) that only certain cables will enable rapid charging of the phone, and most 'generic' micro usb cables will just trickle charge.

Is this true? If so, any idea where to get a reasonably priced genuine Samsung cable from in the UK? I'm after a fairly short one... 25-50cm max.

I would look at the wattage on the one you got with your phone, and get a charger that is the same as that.

Not all are same yes. Because I used others microusb chargers on my EVO and it wouldn't really charge. Probably went up 10% in a hour. Where as the regular charger went to full charge usually in 2hours
 
Get one that has an in line fuse! A friend's car caught fire in the interior when his cheap charging cable shorted out. The fuse for the cig lighter is very high in capacity and will melt the wires if shorted before it will blow.

A friend was installing a stereo into his Porsche 944 when he crossed a wire (the battery terminal was not disconnected). This turned over the ignition while also starting a fire. The car was in gear which bucked the flaming car from his driveway, half way into his garage before stopping. Luckily we live right next to a fire station. They were there in minutes putting out the fire. A few thousand in damages and a totalled Porsche was all. He was lucky.

Anyway what were you saying...
