Mini USB port broke

I have had my Droid now for just outside the 30 day return point. It seems the mini USB port on my Droid has broke. I am not an expert but it seems that there is a small tab on the inside the the port on the Droid that has broken.
Anyway to fix this? Anyone else have this problem?

Assuming you didn't abuse the phone, it sounds like a manufacturer defect that would be covered under the 1 year warranty. Take it to a Verizon store and see what they say.
 
Its a microUSB mot a miniUSB. It is just the metal shield around it or the small connector inside.
microusb just seems small and fragile to me, I'd prefer miniusb.

I second that. BTW, this possibility is why I ended up getting the $7.99/month insurance with extended warranty. The MicroUSB port does seem like a potential weak point and if it ever does fail (even outside the 1 year Motorola warranty), I should be able to get it replaced.
 
I can't see paying $8 per month times 24, my house inusrnace isn't much more than that. If it breaks out of warranty I'll order a new port from digikey or mouser and solder it on.

It also covers theft, damage due to accidental drop or water, etc.
Typical homeowner's insurance would only cover theft and even though wouldn't cover it in all situations when away from the house unless you bought a personal articles policy/rider (which would be at least as much as the Verizon insurance). And there's still the matter of the deductible (my homeowner's deductible is more than the $600 cost of replacing the Droid).
 
What I'm meaning is $8 per month for ~$600 coverage isnt that good of deal compared to ~$16 per month for ~$200,000 coverage. Your spending 1/3 the cost of the phone after a couple years to insure it. Just put a couple hundred $ in savings in for just in case.
 
Sorry about not knowing the proper name. I did bring it back into Verizon and they gave me a new one without a problem. I also think this is a potential ongoing problem.
