Minix X7 Mini WIFI Issues

Please can anyone tell me why WIFI on Minix X7 mini in my house is so slow?

When I connect ethernet I can get 30Mbps download speed.

When I connect by WIFI I get 1Mbps.

My samsung galaxy S5 gets about 20-25Mbps.
Laptop gets the same.
Childrens iPads the same.

Is it a problem with the router and the box?

I have noticed the same issue at many of my clients homes (I supply and install Minix boxes) so I end up having to wire up with Ethernet, sometimes very inconvenient and can be a deal breaker!

Thanks in advance.

The main issue seems to be that Android boxes (including the Minix X7) have a wifi adapter with just a single antenna, which even when on 802.11n, will cap your speeds quite a bit.

Most phones and tablets now come with multiple internal antennas, but Android boxes are typically made to be as inexpensive as possible.

Some people don't have any problems, though... but I suspect that they have boxes within close proximity to their routers.

The older Minix boxes have known WiFi issues. Later models are supposed to have this fixed.

Just out of interest... does your box have an internal or external antenna?

Yes I know Ethernet would be the ideal solution, I was just wanting to know what the issue is with WIFI on these boxes.

I have to install for my clients and powerline extenders can get very messy, added expense...and don't work when the house is on 2 different circuits.

Ideally, of course, you'll want to improve your existing WiFi connection on your box.
Unfortunately because of the nature of these cheaply made gadgets, you may be facing an uphill battle.

Good luck.

The thing that gets me though...is that many of my clients have no issue with WIFI on the box at their house. There doesn't seem to be any pattern of how far the router is from the box. My own router is only 2 metres away.

I can take this box to a clients house and the WIFI will work perfectly, 30Mbps download.

?

Just a thought, but would another box (or device even) react more favorably?
The box may just be a dud... or may be reacting to surrounding interference.

I set up these boxes all the time for clients, I've tried hundreds of X7Mini's, and dozens of X7's, X6's, X5's in my home....

...all of them react the same. Very good Ethernet, very bad WIFI.

So it must be either an interference or modem/router issue?
