Help Mirroring to HDMI TV

Some advice please.

I want to mirror my LG G2 to my HDMI TV.

I use the BBC iPlayer, ITV player and the Mobo player app for movies etc. along with some others.

Spent ages reading reports on the 'net but still I can't sort out which is best a Chromecast or Miracast dongle or some other device.

Many thanks in advance for any replies

Does your TV have WiFi? Does it have Miracast support? You wouldn't need a dongle if so. Maybe a program like Miracast or WiFi-Direct in it's description on a smart TV? Then I think the phone can just send content over your local wiFi if you turn it on in settings.

I know my Samsung will allow me to play YouTube videos and I can pair my phone to the TV to get them to play there, but not sure if it's essentially the same technology, or YouTube allowing me essentially to control what is streamed to the TV with the phone acting like the interface.

Will have to try it.

Hi there

No Miracast or WiFi on my LG TV just a plain old steam driven HDMI TV ......... that's why I need advice on how to find the best way to "Mirror" form my LG SmartPhone

Cheers ............ Gerry N

FWIW: In addition to the LG G2, I have a WiFi enabled Samsung UN40EH5300 LED TV.

I downloaded an app onto my phone called: iMediaShare and with it, I could send either photos to my TV, swiping on my phone, they would change on the TV.

I could also play a video I had on my phone and it would show on the TV. Sound and video were of excellent quality.

I did not need Miracast or Chromecast hardware to do this, and my TV is not Miracast ready (unless I purchased a dongle). I think this is part of the DLNA specification, but I'm not sure.

Anyway - if you had a WiFi TV with DLNA "media" capability, you might try this experiment yourself.

Miracast dongle or some other device

I successfully mirrored my G2's screen to my "dumb" Samsung plasma tv through my Samsung Blu-ray player's Miracast function and it worked great. Games, Facebook, Twitter, text messages, home screens, pictures, etc. worked on my tv screen but some apps didn't work like Xbox Music and Google Play movies. Not sure if that was a limitation of my Blu-ray player, the content providers, or something to do with copyright.
