Missed call auto reply....

I see alot of android phones have a great ability to send a text when a call is missed. So for example, you get a shower and cant answer the call... but the phone sends a text back to the person with a pre-defined message of "in the shower will call you back".

But...

What happens when someone rings from a landline?

Does the android phone still send a text to the landline?

I see you're in the UK ... My landline (BT) allows me to receive texts - there's some option to enable/disable 'text to voice' services. Bleddy confused me when it first appeared! Anyhow, try logging into your BT account, if you have one, and checking there. Or at least having a dig around their site (though pulling my own teeth is a preferable use of my time :D ).

I'd tell you exactly where it is but my memory lapses are getting more frequent with age .... Oh, and if you miss a call then they can leave a message surely? If they don't then it's obviously not important .....

Thanks Dave, You are right about BT and Virginmedia etc etc as they do read back text messages sent to landlines, but its a time consuming and flakey method and the Android phones must have a better way of handling it.

Lets say some big company switchboard rings me and I dont answer but my phone sends a text to their switchboard that rings with a robotic woman reading stats and my message... surely that doesn't happen?

Has anyone actually tested or does anyone use this missed call text auto reply thing?

Ta.

This is one of the areas where the 'automated text reply' falls down. Big companies either don't broadcast their number (comes up as 'unknown') or, even if someone calls from their own direct line, the number comes up as the main company number. I can't see a way around this one BTW ...

Yeah, I disabled the BT 'text to voice' service as my father (house bound with Parkinsons) kept playing with his mobile and accidentally sending texts to my landline so the phone would keep going off at 3am in the morning. No more .... :)
