Missed Calls & Voice Mail

If someone calls me and I am not near my phone to get it, how will I know I have a missed call? I didn't even know I had a voice mail until I downloaded some voice mail app to check it. Is there a way to check voice mails without the app? Do these missed calls and voice mails show up in notifications?

You have to understand I just upgraded from a Razor to the HTC Incredible so this is completely new to me!

well... missed calls will show up on your task bar with a notification,.

as for voicemail.. i have visual voicemail from sprint. if you have a Dinc you dont have sprint... my guess is without any kind of app, it would act just like any other voicemail where you have to call your phone number and enter a password and all that.
