missing APN settings in mobile networks

Newbie
Hi, just got this Verizon phone galaxy note 4 N910V , new out of the box, bought on ebay. android 5.0.1 Got the phone to work but cannot get data to work. Tried to get help from service provider but we cannot see APN settings. When I go to more networks then mobile networks there are no APN choices. Software is missing?
Did some searching on the net, found similar questions form other people but no working answer.

Can I fix this or should I return the phone?

Is Verizon your carrier, or are you using another? But it sounds like it's got an MSL(Master Subsidy Lock) on the phone. You can make calls, but data isn't working. From what I've read about MSL and CDMA networks, like Verizon and Sprint, it can be particularly nasty to deal with. I'd return the phone.

carrier is mvno using verizon towers. I can send you private msg for the actual company. But it sounds like i got screwed if it is master locked. Would it be worth it to try to put a ROM in it or something else? I know nothing about ROMS, have just used stock phones last 25 years. I do have computer experience, pretty sure I could install one or something similar

I'm not sure if there is any ROMs for a Verizon variant Note 4. Have a look on XDA Devs? Also flashing a ROM may not remove the carrier locks? Somebody else may know more.

Yes that is a very good suggestion. XDA is the authority when it come to android development. Be aware that the n910v (Verison Note 4) has a locked bootloader. Before you flash anything it needs to be unlocked first or you will brick your phone. Secondly, you will need to go to settings, about device and tap build number 5 to 7 times in order to reveal "developer options". Go bact to main settings and you will now see developer options. Click it and go to usb debuging and enable it. Make sure you read XDA for specific details about your Note 4. You will also need an official firmware specific to your phone. Search the form and theres a good chance you will find an official firmware specific to your device. Use an Md5 to validate your download.
If you purchase your Note 4 on Ebay, it is possible that the phone you purchased was an Sm-n910v in large print and in the description the hardware was from another carrier.
Also it may be that Verison has lock out the apns settings on the updated firmware. Best check xda to be certain.
If you decide to root, the most important thing I can tell you is to install a custom recovery like TWRP. I can honestly tell you that the kost important thing when rooting it make a backup immediately, check all partitions before backing up. Furthermore, TWRP will prompt you to install root. DO NOT LET TWRP INSTALL THE SU-BINARIES, YOU HAVE BE WARNED. Good luck

Wow! Fantastic reply! Thank you so much for all the info. But i gave up and returned the phone, luckily they refunded my money :) before I had upgraded my wife to a Galaxy S5, so i ordered another one from same seller, works great! If I go back to a note, I will probably have to get a Note 3, which is Ok with me, loved my old Note 2.

Thanks again to all the replied!

Heckava phone! crazy camera, just wish it did smaller pictures, i used 256kb pictures in my old note 2 and never worried about eating up my bandwidth sending pictures with texts :) smallest the S5 does is 2 MB! :( I rememebr when 2 MB cameras were huge state of the art cameras! LOL I guess people do not know the human eye can't see more than 400 dots per inch :D

You know what I never thought about exactly how many gigabytes my photos used. I checked it out on my Note 4 as soon as I read your post. Now it is I who will say Thank you . I can not speak for the stock Note 4 camera as I am on a custom rom. Just to give an example of what a custom rom is I will attach screenshots

I hate apps updating constantly as you mentioned. Google has free rain and can go threw your device and pretty much as it pleases and it can do the same even on a rooted phone such as mine. If you dislike auto update user apps you have the option to open Google play store and tap top left 3 bar icon, then under setting turn auto update off. In fact most of the time bugs fixed mean more popup adds. Lol.

This is a system app which I personally ported to my Note 4, this is a Samsung systems app on a C5 Samsung phone.

Just to be clear, I have no formal education in regards to android, java, or computers for that matter. I am not an expert nor do I clame to know everything android. I learned everthing online and informs like this. In fact, thanks to judgeguns I learned how many megabites a pictures on my Note 4 uses. For years I would nevercask questions for fear of ridicule. Like the WATERBOY " What are you to st, st, st ,stupid" . To be clear Im not say that to anyone but it was what i thought someone telling me if I would ask a question. LOL. JK...... My apologies as I am of topic

Smart people ask a Lot of questions!! I finally figured that out after 2 college degrees! lol Never learned it in college, heard it several times at several seminars. The speakers would all say there is no stupid question and smart people ask a lot of questions! I have learned much more on my own as compared to college. But the college parties and the girls were worth it! :D

Most updates are just downloading your browser and call / text / email / app use history

I agree forums rock! :D
