missing media after disconnecting from pc

I hook up my nexus 1 to my PC. I transferred two movies that I converted to avi format. I copy and paste directly on to the memory card in the phone. When I finish I confirm that it was on the card. When I disconnect from my PC and try to play the movie it wasn't there
I moved the. Memory card to a android tablet and it still wouldn't play. When I check the capacity of the memory card it was still the same. ( the two movie took up 0 KB) I did not copy the short cut

Android cant play avi files natively. You would need a third party player like Rock Player, and even that doesnt work with all codecs. Also, download Astro onto your phone, and check in there to verify that the files are actually there.

I decide to try using archos 70 Android tablet instead of the nexus1. The movie went unto the sd card on the tablet and stayed there. I was thinking it was a Android issue but the tablet is running Android too. My main concern was why the movie was deleting off the memory card after i remove the nexus1 from the pc.
I have meridian player on the nexus and the tablet. I used pocket dvd studio to convert the dvd. It was set at avi-xvid mpeg-4 codec
