Missing Outgoing SMTP server

I was trying to help my dad set up his email address on his new droid. i ran into a problem where his email provider did not have an outgoing email server that they used and they recomended that we use any other. I set him up a new gmail account and entered in all of their SMTP information for the outgoing.
The problem that we run accross is when he sends and email using he main email account it gets sent from the new google account because that is the outgoing server we had to us. this causes a problem with having to send from one account and check from another account when people hit reply to you.
Is there a way to fisc this and use a different SMTP server as a proxy but have the recipient see the email come from the original account?

I am not completely sure what you are wanting to do, am I right in thinking you want to use 2 gmail accounts but send from one and receive with the other?

The current imcoming server is set to work email account
Outgoing server is set to gmail because work account doesn't have an outgoing server

No when I send an email from the phone it is sent from gmail not work. Is there a way to still use the gmail outgoing server but have the recipient see the original work address not the gmail address.

If you log onto your gmail on a pc and go into the mails settings you can add other email accounts to gmail so that gmail will send messages on behalf of another account. Have a look at those settings and see of they will do what you require. Once you set the default account on those settings when you send mail out from the mobile it should send from the default account you set in the settings.
