Missing photos on android

There's a problem on my android phone. I've downloaded several images on my phone and now at least 143 of them went missing. I've searched all over my folders and everything, but none so far have shown up. I have a small amount of hope since my wallpaper is one of the downloaded images there. I've already tried rebooting, removing cache, and installing various gallery apps. I need some help since most of these images meant a lot to me.
 
Do you have an SD card? Do you sync your images to the cloud? Files generally don't self-delete.
