MMS on t-mobile not working on Galaxy Nexus

I have been grandfathered into an old t-mobile family plan that is no longer available. Any changes I make will void this plan and I will need to sign up for a new, much more expensive plan. So, my current plan includes no data, unlimited messaging (including MMS) and plenty of minutes for my daughter and I to share. We get by plenty fine just using wi-fi throughout the day instead of mobile data.

I used to use a myTouch 3g and I left mobile data off to prevent data accidents. This meant I could not receive or send MMS. But, I was able to download MMS messages after I saw the message pending by turning on mobile data. Likewise, I was able to send if I turned on mobile data first.

(My daughter's myTouch 4g slide has always been able to send and receive with mobile data off.)

Now, I have the unlocked Galaxy Nexus HSPA and no matter what I do, it is unable to send or receive MMS. I have turned on mobile data before sending and the file is still pending. As is the download I received while mobile data was off. In the past these files would have processed fine with my 3g.

If I recall correctly, t-mobile well over a year ago told me I had to have an android data plan in order to send and receive MMS on an Android phone (I had Nokia previous). This turned out to be an outright lie as I was able to do the workaround I mentioned above.

Any thoughts on what I can try to fix MMS on my Galaxy Nexus??

Thanks!

Go into Options and locate Mobile Networks. Tap on Access Point Names. You should see something like T-Mobile USA. Tap on it. Then tap on Name and change it to T-Mobile USA Backup. Tap on OK. Tap on the menu and save those settings. Now you can use this as your backup.

Back out of those backup settings options. Click on Menu and tap on New APN. Some of these settings have more than one option. I found better luck with the MMS issue by using Internet+MMS for the APN type. Also be aware that sometimes the phone may appear not to save the settings and that the entire APN lists just disappear. Before you make a new one, reboot the phone first and see if they come back. (This is what happened to me). I must of did this 5 or 6 times before I rebooted... only to have 7 APN lists lol.

  • Name: T-Mobile
  • APN: epc.tmobile.com
  • Proxy: <Not set> OR set: 216.155.165.050
  • Port: <Not set> OR You can set: 8080
  • Username: <Not set>
  • Password: <Not set>
  • Server: <Not set>
  • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
  • MMS proxy: <Not set> OR You can set: 216.155.165.050
  • MMS port: <Not set> OR You can set: 8080
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 260
  • Authentication type: <Not set>
  • APN type: <Not set> OR Internet+MMS OR default, supl, mms (no spaces between commas)
When you save, be sure to choose your newest APN in the list. You may need to reboot your phone, I can't remember.

When I saw this post I figured it was the magic bullet and would work instantly. Sadly, it has yet to work.

In Jelly Bean (4.1.1) the APN set up is slightly different. There are two additional settings:

APN Protocol:
The choices are IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4/IPv6

Bearer:
LTE, eHRPD or Unspecified

Other than that, I have followed your instructions and used "not set" where able and APN Type: Internet/MMS. I tried a few other tweaks but nothing so far has worked.
