Help Mobile Data slow to establish connectivity

Jan Shim

Newbie
If there's one annoyance on the SGS3, I would have to say it's Mobile Data ("MD") connectivity. While at home, it's turned off in favour of Wi-Fi but when I'm on the road, I turn on MD and sometimes it would connect instantly other times it takes minutes before anything happens.

I understand that some places have weaker signals but it should at least turn on instantly and show weak signal instead of not turning on at all. What I have done is switch phone to Airplane Mode and then switch out of that - it triggers MD sometimes. Other times I would just recycle power and when phone reboots, I'd see the 3G icon instantly.

Is this a bug? What are you experiences?

I have a similar issue when I'm leaving my house and turning wifi off, it takes a few minutes before it gets to a data connection, and I have 5 bars usually.

The phone I owned before the S3, a less smart Nokie E71, never had issues (on the same 3G carrier) like this unless the entire network was down.

Mines having issues too I'm on at&t. While going down the road my wife's iphone holds signal better than my s3.

I believe that iPhones in general have stronger reception than Galaxy models. Case in point: family members with iPhone 4 and SGS 2 visited Korea and in areas where signals were relatively weak, the iPhone 4 had reception while the SGS 2 showed zero bar. Point here isn't about signal strength but rather connectivity when I turned on Mobile Data at will.
